Blizzard is currently dealing with a massive outage of their proprietary login service. Battle.net, the tool used by millions of players to access World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and many other Blizzard games is currently down and has been having login issues for a few hours now. Blizzard has said that they are currently on the case, looking for a cause, and already rolling out updates to possibly fix the problems, but they have no ETA for a final fix just yet.
The trouble seems to have started a few hours earlier today, with users reporting login problems on Battle.net and throughout Blizzard’s online services. These are likely just on PC, where most people play Blizzard games, but it could extend to consoles if it gets much worse.
Blizzard has been updating users on Twitter, with a couple of updates being issued since the outage began. There hasn’t been any definitive answers yet though, with the company just thanking fans for their patience and promising that they are looking for solutions as we speak.
“We’re currently investigating an issue affecting our authentication servers, which may result in failed or slow login attempts,” said Blizzard earlier today. Future updates hinted that they were getting closer to a fix, but so far the Battle.net downtime has stretched for far longer than anyone expected.
Of course, these things usually don’t stay down for long, so hopefully it is fixed soon after this post goes up. We’ll keep it updated, so if you’ve been having trouble logging in to play Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Diablo, or any other of the developer’s titles then keep checking back for updates as they arrive.
With millions of players locked out of their games, the company is surely working frantically to find a fix and get it out to all those affected. Check back soon for an update.
